On her way to school Jeanie finds a genie ring. She asks for a "brilliant day", but a homesick and hungry genie, confronted with rainy skies and school mashed potatoes, can be as much trouble as fun. The author is a winner of the Smarties Prize, "The Guardian" Fiction Prize and the Carnegie Medal.
