Christmas is coming, and Simon is running low on food for his family. When he stumbles upon a goat in the mountains, he’s delighted to have found a Christmas feast. But the children fall in love with the little goat, and are heartsick at the thought of cooking him. They convince their parents to spare him, and they name him Pashmina. Soon their kindness pays off. Pashmina’s hair grows in so quickly that they keep having to shave him, and when they sell his mohair at the market, they make enough money to support the family through the rest of the winter. From then on Simon tells the story of the goat who escaped the cooking pot by a hair…. A poignant and beautiful story of sacrifice, perfect for Christmas.
